What kind of antenna can I hook up to a laptop to get better wireless reception?

I’ve been looking for an antenna to use with my laptop to get better reception from a wireless router, but the only ones I can find have to be attached to the router and not the computer. Is there any kind of antenna that can be used to get better signal strength to my laptop?

If the wireless card is internal, your stuck, unless the manufacturer has a provision for an external antnna. If your using a PCMICIA wireless card, choose a new card like the Proxim, or Seano. Theses cards have a provision for an external antenna. Additionaly, to a certain extent everything has to be equal, i.e., if the Router has a ‘huge’ antenna-It makes no difference. The Laptop can ‘here’ it, but can’t talk back.
