Why can’t I hear sound come from my HDTV after it’s been connected to my laptop by HDMI cable?

I have a HP Pavilion dv5, and I connected it to my HDTV using an HDMI cable. I can here the sound from my computer but not through my TV. It worked fine the fine the first and second time, but then I couldn’t hear any sound. When I open up the “Sound” from the control panel, and go to the “playback” tab, it doesn’t recognize that there’s a cable connected to it.

You may have to reset it each time you remove the HDMI cable
